The Greensboro Open is a 3-round, one-day event that began in December of 2013 and is held every other month. One of the largest and most successful one-day events in the Southeast, this tournament attracts players from North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, and Georgia. The tournament is open to all players with a USCF membership (available for purchase on-site). The prize fund is always 80% of the entry fee pool which is one of the highest guaranteed pay-out percentages in North Carolina. Several USCF Masters regularly play at this event.

Pre-registration deadline is 9:00 pm the day before the event. On-site registration is from 10:00am – 10:45am on the day of the event. Please arrive on-time.

There is plenty of food choices as they have a Chick-fil-A, Aggie Wings, Sub Connection, Einstein Bagels, 1891 Bistro, Barnes & Nobles, several ATMs, and a Convenience Store. There are several lounges, recreation and gaming areas, and an Information Desk.
Format: 3 Round Swiss
Time Control: G/60; d5 (Game 60 min with a 5 Sec. delay.)
Round Times: Round 1 — 11:00 am, Round 2 — 1:30 pm & Round 3 — 3:45 pm
Byes: One 1/2-point bye available any round — must declare before the start of the event
Sections: To ensure the best experience possible, we employ a flexible section format. The Tournament Director reserves the right to deviate from the below schedule if necessary. The most current USCF Supplement will be used for ratings/pairings.
- Based on (=/<28) entrants:
- 2 sections divided in half according to ratings.
- Based on (28-40) entrants: 3 sections divided by thirds.
- Based on (40-56) entrants: 4 sections divided by fourths.
- Based on (=/>56) entrants: 5 sections divided by fifths and so forth…
Based on 40 entries / $30 each / 3 sections ($960 total prize fund)
Each section (Lower, Middle, Upper) will receive a prize.
